Dementia Friendly Communities

Knowing the importance of providing a safe and friendly space for the aging members of our community, Liberty Oxygen and Medical Equipment work to better support individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia and their family caregivers. The Alzheimer’s Association defines dementia as a general term for the decline in mental ability severe enough to interfere with daily life. Memory loss is a common symptom and Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia. In fact, we are a designated member of the Home Instead Senior Care public education program, Alzheimer’s Friendly Business℠. Home Instead Senior Care Minneapolis offered free training to local businesses, including Liberty Oxygen and Medical Equipment and the Minnesota Orchestra Hall, to better understand this disease and manage behavioral-related situations that may arise. The program and training focus on the challenges that family caregivers of persons with Alzheimer’s disease face when going into the community with their loved one. This unique program provides local businesses the training necessary to become a safe environment for those who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias.
